The herbarium of the Nupélia - Research Group in Limnology, Ichthyology and Aquaculture (HNUP) belongs to the State University of Maringá (UEM) and was officially created in 2016. Since the beginning of its activities, in May 1988, it was linked to the Nupélia/UEM in its administration, function and structure. However, until 2015 it was institutionally linked to the HUEM, under the designation of Collection of Riparian Vegetation of the Nupélia/UEM. In 2015, after being disconnected from the HUEM, it was registered in the Index Herbariorum and in the Brazilian Network of Herbaria under the acronym HNUP. About 50% of its collection is digitalized with the Brahms system (Botanical Research and Herbarium Management Software), version 7.9.11, including specimens of riparian vegetation, periphytic algae and phytoplankton, mainly sampled in the upper Paraná River. It currently counts with researchers Kazue Kawarita PhD, Mariza Barion Romagnolo PhD and Carlos Eduardo Bento Fernandes (vascular flora) and Luzia Cleide Rodrigues PhD and Susicley Jati PhD (phytoplankton), apart from graduate (PEA/PGB/UEM) and undergraduate students, and holders of student grants PIBIC – CNPq, PIBIC – EM, Araucaria Foundation, UEM and Nupelia. The collection of the HNUP includes over 18,000 specimens and is functionally linked to the Laboratory of Riparian Vegetation/Nupelia-UEM (Labotan, G-80 block).
